Another Useful Java Open Source Directory

Java-Source.net : Open Source Software in Java(tm)

There’s also a C# sister site (if you’re into that sort of thing).

AND there is a similar directory at http://www.manageability.org/blog/opensource.

Free Windoze Print-to-PDF

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Ran across CutePDF Writera few days ago.
It’s very handy when you need an email-able printout or if you just want to save paper (and you aren’t running Linux, where you can usually print to postscript or PDF).

Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005

I’ve often wondered why I keep seeing the same pseudo-Latin text showing up in various demo applications and sites.

Genuis ?= hard work

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005

Paul Graham

… I suspect if you had the sixteen year old Shakespeare or Einstein in school with you, they’d seem impressive, but not totally unlike your other friends.

Which is an uncomfortable thought. If they were just like us, then they had to work very hard to do what they did. And that’s one reason we like to believe in genius. It gives us an excuse for being lazy. If these guys were able to do what they did only because of some magic Shakespeareness or Einsteinness, then it’s not our fault if we can’t do something as good.

I’m not saying there’s no such thing as genius. But if you’re trying to choose between two theories and one gives you an excuse for being lazy, the other one is probably right.

Tag Gmail Emails for auto-labeling

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

Pretty handy filtering functionality. Gmail apparently ignores anything after a ‘+’ in the email address.
You can append ‘+<anything>’ to your Gmail username and send yourself an email. Then you can create a filter to automatically apply a label to emails sent to <username>+<anything>@gmail.com.

Posting by Email is Flaky

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005

The Blogger Folks must be having some problems with this
functionality, because my experience is that sometimes the entries
make it in a timely manner (a couple minutes), sometimes very, very
late (hours and hours) or not at all…
I sent a post email yesterday about 3PM and it still hasn’t made it.
